KABUL: The Taliban government in Afghanistan has responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement about the arrest of the mastermind behind the deadly Kabul airport attack during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. Trump had thanked Pakistan for its role in capturing the suspect.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, in an audio message sent to the media, stated that the arrest confirms that ISIS and other "terrorist groups" have now sought refuge in Pakistan.
"There is no doubt that the attack was carried out by ISIS, and now that ISIS members are being arrested on Pakistani soil, it clearly proves that they have taken shelter there and established their hideouts. This matter has nothing to do with Afghanistan," Mujahid said.
While the Pakistani government has yet to respond to Mujahid’s latest remarks, it has previously blamed Afghanistan for harboring militant groups responsible for attacks on Pakistani soil.
However, the Taliban government has repeatedly denied such allegations, insisting that they do not allow any group to use Afghan territory against neighboring countries or any other nation.
